Today, we’re going to talk about the different types of dental veneers, and the pros and cons of each type.
Hi, my name is Dr. Judith and I’m one of the principal dentists here at Elevate Dental.
Yesterday I was speaking with one of my patients Stephanie during her Smile Makeover consultation when she asked me “What are the different types of dental veneers”.
So I thought I’d make a video to share with you what I told her.
Generally, there are two types of veneers – composite veneers and porcelain veneers. With both options, each veneer shape and size is individually crafted to fit your face and your mouth.
The result is a natural and beautiful smile that suits you.
Here are the differences between the two type of veneers.
The first type is a Composite veneer which is sometimes referred to as ‘bonding‘.

It’s a tooth-coloured filling material that gets bonded to your natural teeth.
They’re usually polished and fitted in your mouth.
They can provide great immediate results and are more cost-effective compared to porcelain veneers.
The main downside is that they need more maintenance over time as they are more fragile and can chip and stain more easily. So things like red wine, curry, they will affect how white these veneers will stay.
Porcelain veneers are like a level up from composite veneers.

These veneers are individually handcrafted to look and feel exactly like natural teeth. Each set can take up to 50 hours to create. When they’re crafted well, it’s hard to tell between a porcelain tooth and a real tooth – even for a dentist!
Because they are porcelain, they last much longer, don’t discolour and are more resistant to breakages. They will feel like your teeth – but better.
I hope that’s given you more insight into the different types of veneers.
