Dental Crowns and Bridges Hawthorn Melbourne

Dental crowns and bridges are solutions to repair damaged teeth. Not all damaged teeth should be pulled, and our goal at Elevate Dental Hawthorn Melbourne is to save your natural teeth, whenever possible. Read on to learn how crowns and bridges strengthen and support damaged teeth and can be a long-lasting and durable dental option to repair teeth.

Went this afternoon for an appointment after not having been to the dentist since god-knows-when. The team booked me in at a time that suited me, were really easy to deal with, the process was simple and I was in and out (with a filling and an x-ray) within my hour lunch break. Dr James was really good and they made me feel comfortable and relaxed (even when I panicked over the big anaesthetic needle). The cost was really reasonable and I am definitely going to recommend to everyone.

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth replacement, but it doesn’t replace your entire tooth. Remember, the goal is to save your teeth whenever possible, and a crown can help us achieve that. A dental crown is a cap that fits over the damaged tooth, yet has the shape, colour, and feel of your natural tooth. It will protect a damaged tooth as well as protect the root, which will help you avoid future dental problems and allow you to keep your natural tooth and root for much longer. The materials used to create a crown may be porcelain, gold, or zirconia.

Most of the crowns we use at Elevate Dental are porcelain. We believe in dental solutions that will last, and porcelain is the most durable material. In addition, it is stain-resistant and looks most like a real tooth, so nobody knows you are wearing it but you.

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges consist of a row of crowns in one prosthetic piece. These are used to replace a series of missing teeth, or may replace one tooth if the patient is not a candidate for a dental implant. Bridges are restorative fixtures that include the crown to replace the missing tooth or teeth, and then a crown on each end used to anchor the bridge and keep it in place. They are considered a permanent dental solution to replace missing teeth because they are not removable, and they last a long time, often for a decade or more.

The Solution for Damaged and Missing Teeth

Dental crowns save damaged or weak teeth and protect them from further damage and loss. Dental bridges fill in gaps of missing teeth so you can eat and talk with ease, while restoring the appearance of your smile. The following are dental problems that can be repaired with crowns and/or bridges:

N
Restore and protect a cracked tooth
N
Restore and protect a chipped or broken tooth
N
Repair and protect a tooth that has been damaged by an old filling
N
Crowns protect a tooth and root after a root canal
N
Restore worn teeth with a bridge or crown
N
Restore facial shape by replacing a series of missing teeth

The Benefits of Dental Crowns and Bridges

We know patients often feel self-conscious when a tooth is missing, and replacing it with a crown can improve self-esteem and confidence. But looks are not the only reason to replace or repair teeth. The following are some issues that can arise from problem or missing teeth:

Untreated damaged teeth can be painful
Damaged teeth increase your risk for tooth decay and gum disease
Damaged and crooked teeth are difficult to clean, leading to infection and bad breath
Missing teeth allow for deterioration of the jawbone, giving your face a sunken, aged look
Restoring tooth function with crowns or bridges can solve the issues and more. You will regain full function of your mouth and avoid worse future dental problems. The following are more benefits of dental crowns:
R
Save a severely damaged tooth
R
Protect damaged teeth
R
Fix appearance of a chipped or discoloured tooth
R
Protect tooth a root after root canal treatment
R
Long-lasting
R
Durable, lasting up to 10 years or more
The following are the benefits of both dental crowns and bridges:
Regain full function of your mouth
Improved chewing
Improve speaking
Maintain youthful face shape
Prevent surrounding teeth from shifting and damage
Low-risk dental solution
Restore your smile and confidence

What are the Risks?

As with any treatment, there are slight risks to getting a dental crown or bridge. An ill-fitting crown can be painful, while a poorly created bridge can allow bacteria and decay to form under it. Also, if a crown is used to repair a damaged tooth, there is a chance a root canal is needed or will soon be needed.
