Dental Bonding

Dental Bonding Hawthorn Melbourne

Dental bonding is a cost-effective and efficient way to repair teeth that have been damaged, discoloured, or misshapen. Our team at Elevate Dental have the experience and skills to use bonding to repair your teeth and renew them to a healthy appearance while maintaining the function, so you can talk, eat, and smile with ease.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is the use of a resin type of material that is bonded to a damaged part of a tooth. It can fill in cracks or replace amalgam fillings, or even improve the colour and shape of teeth. Bonding can be used to protect a portion of a tooth, such as if damaged gums expose a root, or as a cosmetic alternative to traditional fillings. We can select the colour that best matches your natural teeth and create the design so people can see your beautiful smile without noticing your dental work.

The full process of dental bonding may take as little as an hour for one tooth. It is considered a non-invasive treatment and is a solution for those who are not candidates for veneers. Our team of dentists will ensure your dental bonding is smooth, so it feels nice, as well as shaped and coloured to enhance your tooth and match the rest of your teeth. You will leave with the smile you’ve been waiting for.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is affordable for most patients and can be done in just one office visit. In many cases, very little to no tooth enamel is removed, and anesthesia is not necessary. Here are more benefits of bonding:

Restore your smile and confidence
Less invasive than some other dental treatments to repair teeth
Bonding cracks in teeth make teeth stronger
Fix one misshapen tooth to improve your smile, with a quick and cost-effective treatment
Improve the colour of a mismatched tooth
Lengthen teeth that are worn down
Fill cavities with natural-looking material
Protect broken and cracked teeth from further damage
Your tooth will look and feel natural and fit in with your existing teeth
Offers a middle ground to more extensive dental treatments

Who Needs Dental Bonding?

Because the treatment is quicker than many dental solutions and is very cost-effective, dental bonding is an ideal solution for those who want to repair their teeth in one visit. Sometimes patients want bonding now, and will have a porcelain veneer placed later. This is possible with bonding and allows you time to plan for future, more permanent dental work. The following are issues that dental bonding will fix:

\
Cracked or broken teeth
\
Teeth that are worn or ground down
\
Discoloured teeth
\
Protect sensitive teeth
\
Protect exposed tooth root
\
Cover or replace amalgam fillings

Went this afternoon for an appointment after not having been to the dentist since god-knows-when. The team booked me in at a time that suited me, were really easy to deal with, the process was simple and I was in and out (with a filling and an x-ray) within my hour lunch break. Dr James was really good and they made me feel comfortable and relaxed (even when I panicked over the big anaesthetic needle). The cost was really reasonable and I am definitely going to recommend to everyone.

What to Expect

We know that understanding the procedure helps many patients make better decisions about their personal treatment. The following is what you can expect from a dental visit with us for a dental bonding treatment.

Z
Your first visit will be a comprehensive examination and consultation to ensure you are a candidate for dental bonding.
Z
We will repair any cavities or issues that prevent you from being a candidate for bonding. If a tooth cannot be repaired for bonding, we will discuss other options with you.
Z
If you are a candidate, we will take a mould or 3D scan of the tooth that requires treatment.
Z
Your tooth will be numbed, if necessary, and the bonding will be placed on your tooth.
Z
Our skilled dentist will fix your tooth by shaping and polishing the bonding material to ensure it matches your other teeth.
Z
The dentist may recommend toothpaste that will help reduce temperature sensitivity for some patients.

Caring for Your New Tooth or Teeth

Dental bonding is subject to staining and discolouration, just like your natural teeth. For this reason, it is best to follow healthy oral hygiene protocols like daily brushing and flossing, with attention to what you eat and drink. The following are typical protocols when caring for your teeth and dental work.

N
Brush at least twice each day
N
Floss according to your dentist’s or hygienist’s instructions
N
Use the mouthwash your dentist recommends if any
N
Maintain regular dental checkups as recommended by your dentist for maintenance and to avoid future problems
N
Avoid chewing on ice
N
Do not bite hard objects such as pens or pencils
N
Never open bottles with your teeth
N
Be mindful of foods that stain, such as foods with curry or turmeric
N
Limit staining beverages such as red wine, coffee, and black tea
N
Avoid smoking, as that can discolour bonding, as well as your natural teeth
Dental bonding can last five years or longer, depending upon your oral hygiene habits, your natural bite, and the life of the bonding material. It may be prone to breakage or chipping, so regular dental visits can help the dentist watch for cracks or any issues with the bonding. Many patients transition to veneers or crowns after bonding, and if that is your choice, just let us know, and we can help create a treatment plan for you to lead in that direction.

Dr James is an awesome dentist, I’ve had my pearly whites looked after by him for as long as I can remember and cannot fault his services. From cleaning to general filling, root canals and mouth guards, he does an excellent job. He is always mindful of your comfort and his staff are excellent too. Never had to do any rework because his work is top-notched. Thanks, James!
